Award-winning wines and drinks

Warden Abbey Vinyard

Warden Abbey Vineyard, Bedfordshire’s only working vineyard, is located on the Southill Estate a short distance from Summerhill Farm Shop.  The current vineyard was planted in 1986 on the site of a 12th century vineyard which had been attached to a Cistercian Abbey.  The first vintage was 1990 and in every year since then, one or more of the wines have won awards including several at the International Wine Challenge.  The full range of still and sparkling white wines are available from the farm shop.

Traditional ciders and real ales

At the forefront of the ciders on offer is the range from Aspalls – this has been produced for eight generations using only freshly pressed apple juice without the addition of an concentrates.  The taste really is exceptionally good.  Locally produced bottled ales include those from the Concrete Cow Brewery the only micro-brewery in Milton Keynes, St Peters Brewery near Bungay and the Potton Brewery.  All the ales on sale are produced using traditional methods and only the finest ingredients.

Posh Pop from Norfolk

New to the farm shop this autumn is Breckland Orchard’s Posh Pop.  These soft drinks are made using fabulous natural flavour combinations with Norfolk spring water as their base – varieties include Blackcurrant & Raspberry, Strawberry & Rhubarb, Cloudy Lemonade and Ginger Beer with Chilli.  These sit alongside local, single variety apple juices from Watergull Orchard, fruit and vegetable juices from James White and local spring water.
